Les Tallades also figures in the Orto Vins singular wine collection, and specifically belongs to Joan Asens. He inherited the estate from his great-great-grandfather Nicolau, who bought a 2.5 ha plot of land and planted on it a very special, but tiny vineyard (0.17 ha) of Picapoll Negre. Nowadays, this grape variety is pretty rare in the Montsant DO and the only one with ungrafted rootstock. The gentle, south-facing, chalky slopes provide some perfect bush-pruned vines, resulting in a final tally of 600 bottles of wine. The Picapoll variety expresses itself regally in this wine; totally seductive and with a caressing touch, it displays a floral fragrance of lilac and a delicate, pomegranate-seed crunchiness. It really is quite an unusual wine, with notable acidity. A doubly singular wine, which bears no relation to any of the commercially-minded projects coming out of Montsant. Les Tallades is very much an Asens wine.
