Clos Figueres 2019

A great wine from the Priorat, which René Barbier began making with his friend Christopher Cannan in the town of Gratallops and which the winery team continues to maintain today at an extremely high standard, vintage after vintage. Their secret?: an exceptional terroir and grapes originating from old Cariñena (50% of the coupage) vineyards, carefully blended with Garnacha, Syrah and Cabernet. Clos Figueres is a veritable Priorat and a red with great potential: enticing with its intense aromas of black fruits and liquorice, its hints of undergrowth and spicy notes, and with those menthol touches so typical of the region's great wines. Fresh, complex and showing great length. After a rigorous selection on the sorting table, the 'microvinification' of the harvested grapes takes place in new 500-litre oak casks, which are turned on their side and have their tops removed to create small, open-topped vats. 16 months of ageing occurs in Allier new and one year-old oak barriques and casks, with a further ageing in bottle of between 16 and 20 months.
