Quintaluna is a wine with a fruit-forward, clean nose, yet avoiding any hint of tropical fruits. Its aromas are rather of white flowers, stone fruit (peach) and citrus fruit (lemon and mandarin), although not intensively so, since the winery's aim is to concentrate on bringing out and to the fore the wine's nuances and finesse rather than displaying aromatic potency.
There is complexity on the palate, with an intensity bestowed by low-yield pre-Phylloxera vines, revealed as a certain oiliness and depth. Its natural, fine acidity is displayed clearly in the freshness and lengthy finish. It comes over very obviously as a product of the Verdejo grape, with aromas typical of the variety, such as almond and ripe fruit. Also exhibited are pleasant, fresh herbaceous nuances on a background of aniseed hints. This is an elegant wine with personality that stands out in its price bracket.
Quintaluna is produced from 60% Verdejo grapes grown on extremely old, ungrafted, pre-Phylloxera vines, and 40% young-type grapes from trellised vines, certified as organic and low-yielding.
Ageing: This wine is not barrel-aged to maintain freshness. However, to increase complexity and give it the opportunity to evolve in bottle, it remains in the tank on its lees for two months, with occasional stirring of the lees. After this period of resting on its lees, the wine is clarified and lightly filtered. Bottling took place at the beginning of March 2011.
