Predicador Blanco 2022

The diligence of a vine grower and winemaker with the standing of Benjamín Romeo, in conjunction with the minute attention to detail which the entire Bodegas Contador team dedicates to the production process, are two of the key elements that enable the manufacture of a white of the quality and elegance of Predicador Blanco. The third is the Rioja terroir and its indigenous varieties, whites in this case, the Garnacha Blanca, Viura and Malvasia. Predicador Blanco carries the hallmark of this remarkably generous land and Benjamín's signature. It's a white with considerable character and, even though it remains a little in the shadow of its extraordinary winery sibling, Qué Bonito Cacareaba, currently one of the best Rioja whites available, it's not short of merits. At a much more affordable price, Predicador Blanco also excels because of its elegance, and it's a very flavoursome, fresh and complex white with marked minerality, both on the nose and palate. Predicador Blanco is made from grapes yielded by Garnacha Blanca (42%), Viura (33%) and Malvasia (25%) vines grown in vineyards located around San Vicente de la Sonsierra, sourced from twelve different parcels on alluvial, calcareous-clay and sandy soils. It ferments in new French oak barrels and ages for 8 months in new (30%) and one wine (70%) French oak barrels. A golden yellow colour with greenish flecks, it appears intense on the nose and emanates aromas of ripe fruits, white wild flowers and fine herbs along with other toasty notes that round off a very interesting bouquet. On the palate it comes over as balanced as regards maturity, oak and acidity. With a light tannic structure, it's refined, very lively and has a long, persistent finish. Decanting is recommended prior to serving.
