Tros Negre is a single varietal Garnacha, a wine with a great balance between powerfulness and refinement, which is also a fine exponent of the exceptional qualities attributable to certain Montsant vineyards. Had we been in Burgundy, we would have had it down as a Grand Cru, and the same for its partner Tros Blanc, due to its undeniable personality and the specific nature of its place of origin. Tros Negre comes from a tiny parcel (less than a hectare) with pre-phylloxera vines aged over 95 years old, planted at an altitude of 200 metres on a calcareous soil and facing north-east. Of all the estate's parcels, it is the Tros Negre de la Notaria, as the vineyard is known, which offers the most shining example of that expressivity, combining variety and soil, and endowing the wine with a character all of its own. Using such privileged fruit, Alfredo Arribas and his team, led by Joan Asens, produce this great wine, a Garnacha that is fruity, complex, simultaneously powerful and refined, a wine for cellaring that has huge potential.
